Description

Once upon a time, in a land that might not be so far away depending on where you live, lived Shesha, prince of the Naga-loka. The serpent prince's most prized possession was a stunning, magical blue jewel which he wore every day. One day as he lay sunning himself by the river, Hashkat the mischievous king of the Bandar-loka tried to steal the jewel. Shesha caught the monkey king and would have killed him for his deed, were it not for Tamar the human king of Sundar, who would not see a fellow being die for doing what was his nature to do. Tamar and Shesha fought each other for Hashkat's fate but neither king won, so they parted ways. Many moons later, as Hashkat and Tamar travelled together, Hashkat lay in a cave dying, attacked by an evil rakshasa. Out of the cavern's depths arose Shesha of the Naga-loka. He forgave the monkey king for his deeds, and bestowed upon him the greatest gift the prince could give: the power of the Naga jewel, healing Hashkat of his mortal wound.
The End

This story is a retelling of part of 'The Iron Ring' by Lloyd Alexander, a book I most highly recommend.

A thin black stripe runs the length of the serpent. A glittery copper stripe complements the aqua glass from which the snake is made. It curls near the head, making a sort of teardrop shape. Measures nearly 3 inches long! (7 1/2 cm.)
